September's here and it rained and thundered hard at our house last night as if in protest to the coming end of summer. At least we didn't have to weather the hurricane that harrassed our many friends in Florida recently, and we're glad to know that they are all right.
After a summer busy with music and travel, the fall has slowed down a bit, but we're taking the opportunity to build a little Karma. We're joining former students of a music teacher that the two of us had in common before we met (Max in high school and Ruth in community college) in a concert to promote a musical scholarship fund in his name. Our part will be short as there are many talented musicians who will be participating including touring pros and a former member of the New York Met. We are truly looking forward to this reunion of sorts and a chance to play for this worthy cause on September 18. Another worthy cause: September 22-24, 2016 at 7:30pm The Howmet Playhouse in Whitehall Michigan will celebrate its 100th anniversary with a very special Centennial Celebration Show on three consecutive nights as we honor 100 years of music, movies, and performance at the Grand Old Lady, the Howmet Playhouse. Appearing in the show will be local musicians(that's our brief part) students, White Lake Dramatic Club Alumni, dancers from Sean France School of Dance, and more. Come join your friends, neighbors, and family as we celebrate our special anniversary. These events and more are detailed in the linked schedule below. If you can't see us at one of these this month, then please get out and support live music in your community. If you don't, who will? Early last month we played a delightful concert at St. Williams on Long Point at Raquette Lake, NY in the heart of the Adirondacks. The venue, pictured here, is accessible only by boat, and we had a wonderful audience that filled the house, a former chapel built in 1890. Afterward, we were treated to a world class sunset for our boat ride back across the lake. Some people have all the luck, and sometimes it's us.    Last but not least, on the last Sunday of August we played a last minute pick-up show with our banjo playing friend, Richard Anthony. It was a Chilli cook-off for charity, and this years recipient was Folds of Honor, a group that funds education for the children of veterans who have lost their lives or become disabled in service to our country. His regular band couldn't make it due to a schedule change, and he called us. How could we say no? Here's a photo. There's a brief video shared to our Facebook Page, too.  Thanks for being a fan.
