October Opportunities

October is a favorite month of ours, so we're looking forward to getting out to make some music. If any of the venues in this month's schedule appeal to you don't hesitate to come out to see us and make yourself known.

We start on Oct. 9 at C3 Exchange - West Michigan’s Inclusive Spiritual Connection at the Grand Haven Community Center playing a few tunes for the Sunday morning gathering. Then we head to Chicago Land for the Acoustic Sounds Series, Oct. 13 at the Merion, a luxury senior rental community for active, independent retirees in Evanston.

On Oct. 16 we're back in our home town for a concert at St. Gregory's Episcopal Church. This is an easy one for our fans in the Muskegon, Michigan area. So please come on out. This busy 2 week stretch ends just up the road a piece in Marne, Michigan for a concert at the Marne United Methodist Church on Oct. 22. This is an easy one for all you Grand Rapidians, so we hope to see a lot of you.

All the details are in the full schedule linked below, so pick the one(s) you like and we'll see you soon.

Thanks for reading. Thanks for not sending this to your junk file. Thanks for being a fan.

September Karma

September's here and it rained and thundered hard at our house last night as if in protest to the coming end of summer. At least we didn't have to weather the hurricane that harrassed our many friends in Florida recently, and we're glad to know that they are all right.

After a summer busy with music and travel, the fall has slowed down a bit, but we're taking the opportunity to build a little Karma. We're joining former students of a music teacher that the two of us had in common before we met (Max in high school and Ruth in community college) in a concert to promote a musical scholarship fund in his name. Our part will be short as there are many talented musicians who will be participating including touring pros and a former member of the New York Met. We are truly looking forward to this reunion of sorts and a chance to play for this worthy cause on September 18.

Another worthy cause: September 22-24, 2016 at 7:30pm
The Howmet Playhouse in Whitehall Michigan will celebrate its 100th anniversary with a very special Centennial Celebration Show on three consecutive nights as we honor 100 years of music, movies, and performance at the Grand Old Lady, the Howmet Playhouse. Appearing in the show will be local musicians(that's our brief part) students, White Lake Dramatic Club Alumni, dancers from Sean France School of Dance, and more. Come join your friends, neighbors, and family as we celebrate our special anniversary.

These events and more are detailed in the linked schedule below. If you can't see us at one of these this month, then please get out and support live music in your community. If you don't, who will?

Early last month we played a delightful concert at St. Williams on Long Point at Raquette Lake, NY in the heart of the Adirondacks. The venue, pictured here, is accessible only by boat, and we had a wonderful audience that filled the house, a former chapel built in 1890. Afterward, we were treated to a world class sunset for our boat ride back across the lake. Some people have all the luck, and sometimes it's us.

Last but not least, on the last Sunday of August we played a last minute pick-up show with our banjo playing friend, Richard Anthony. It was a Chilli cook-off for charity, and this years recipient was Folds of Honor, a group that funds education for the children of veterans who have lost their lives or become disabled in service to our country. His regular band couldn't make it due to a schedule change, and he called us. How could we say no? Here's a photo. There's a brief video shared to our Facebook Page, too.

Thanks for being a fan. We couldn't do this without you.

Photos and Video from France. It's August Already!

Is it August already? Time flies when we're having fun. You didn't hear from us in July unless you happened to be following on Facebook. We spent most of July with our gang of friends in southwestern France playing some very nice venues including a winery (imagine that) a chapel built by WWII prisoners of war, a lovely state of the art auditorium, and a couple of good will shows at a local rehabilitation hospital among others.

For more photos visit our Facebook page linked here. It's an album of music shots, sightseeing, and friends we've made there.
Here's a link to a couple of videos put together by a French DJ. He recorded an entire concert, then edited. It's pretty cool.

As we write this message we are packed and ready to leave home for our August 4 concert at St. Williams on Long Point in Raquette Lake, NY, our first time in the Adirondacks. It'll be a quick trip, because after that we have concerts closer to home in West Michigan: Little Sable Point Light House near Silver Lake St. Park, The Double JJ Ranch near Rothbury, and Grand Haven's Tuesdays in the Park.

Stay cool for the rest of the summer. Come see us when you can. Check the schedule linked below for concert information, or email us at this address if you need something else, want to host a house concert, want to suggest a venue, etc.

Thanks for reading.

Celebrating 40 years. Our June 2016 News.

Yes, it's true true and official. We have been playing music together for 40 years, and we have enjoyed every moment that we have been on stage sharing the experience with fans and friends like you. Thank you for being there for us whether you are an old friend or a recent addition to the "club." Be sure to read to the bottom for a special "thank you link."

It kind of all started with a trio called Amaryllis in June of 1976. The three of us played together in various configurations and with additional members for neary 20 years.

When our partner Steve Reeths decided to take his own path, we were forunate enough to all remain friends, and we have enjoyed a number of musical collaborations since those days. To celebrate our 40 years of musical friendship we are playing a special concert on June 23 at the Howmet Playhouse in Whitehall Michigan.

The Howmet Playhouse is also celebrating an anniversary this year, its 100th, and we hope to fill it with friends and fans old and new as we do our part to help her celebrate. It is one of our favorite places to play. Come out and see why.

As always, our complete schedule is linked below. Our very next show is a 12:00 noon brown bag concert at theJohn E. N. Howard Bandshell on Port St. in St. Joseph, Michigan on June 22 sponsored by Jimmy Johns. Grab a sandwich or pack a lunch and come out to join us.

At the end of the month we're off on another grand traveling adventure. We'll keep the destination a mystery, but to keep tabs on us and see what we're up to join us on Facebook. We'd love it if you did.

When we get home, we'll be working to finish our long overdue next CD. Here's a link to a performance of one of the songs that will be on it, The Tapestry.

Oh, by the way, did you know that you can currently go to our website and listen to just about everything we ever recorded on CD? Click here and try it. It's the "thank you link." Enjoy.

Thanks for everything. Please come out to see us, and be sure to support music in your community. Have a great summer.

Ruth and Max

Merry Month of May Featured Concert

RUTH AND MAX BLOOMQUIST
Muskegon, MI

If you can get to South Haven, MI on May 21 this is going to be a fun show. We are excited to be on the bill with critically acclaimed Mark Dvorak. The 7:30 PM concert will take place at Liberty Hyde Baliley Museum 903 S. Bailey Ave. South Haven, MI 49090. Tickets are $10 in advance at Brown Paper Tickets and $15 at the door.

Mark Dvorak is a multi-instrumentalist, singer, song writer, and story teller of legendary repute, and he's a member of the teaching staff at Chicago's Old Town School of Music. We have met him, heard him, and gotten to know him at various mid-western music conferences, and we are truly looking forward to our first collaboration.
The show's presenter, Foundry Hall, is a regular stop for nationally touring acoustic mucians and songwriters. The organization promotes the creative arts including music, literature, dance, visual arts, and film. They present their concerts in a variety of venues around South Haven and the Liberty Hyde Bailey Museum looks like a wonderful spot for acoustic music.

June Preview: We are celebrating the 40 year anniversary of our first performance together with our first band, AMARYLLIS, and our first band mate, Steve Reeths, with a special concert. More about this next month. It's gonna be a blast.

March-Two Dream Venues

RUTH AND MAX BLOOMQUIST
Muskegon, MI

We've been back from our 5-week tour of Florida and Alabama for two weeks today and we're still trying to get our feet back on the ground. The audiences were wonderful and we have many people to thank including the Broward County Folk Club, Santos Pizza, Moonlight On The Mountain, Gulf Shores UMC, and all the folks too numerous to mention here in RV parks and other communities that hosted us or helped us find opportunities to share our music. We are truly grateful.

Speaking of grateful, we get to play two dream venues in this month of March. Each has its own unique character and  we know you will want to try at least one of them. We'll be joined at each of them by our good friends, those fabulous musicians, Dan Seabolt and John King.

On Friday, March 18, we will be at Seven Steps Up in Spring Lake, MI. This Listening Room with full bar is the perfect venue for what they term Pin Drop Concerts. Comfortable reserved seating and a focused but participatory listening environment with personalized bar service make the experience very special. No food is served here, so have a nice dinner before coming to the show. Tickets are available here in advance. Musicians from all over the country are clamoring to play here. Come on out to see why.

On Sunday, March 27, we travel down the road to Fennville, MI for an evening at Salt of the Earth. One of the owners is a fine musician himself and a long time friend of ours. Live music is one of the specialties here. The other specialty is the FOOD. Locally sourced, prepared-by-hand, baked on premises, and served with care, come to this concert hungry because whatever is on the menu is going to be GREAT. Please call 269.561.7258 for concert reservations. You'll be glad you did.

In other news, our thanks goes out to all who purchased our Christmas EP, This Season of Hope and Delight. It's available online all year 'round of course, so if you didn't get yours...here's the link.

Also, we're still working on that new CD in the home studio. It won't be long now, so keep your eyes peeled and your ear to the ground.

Thanks for your continued support. We truly appreciate you sticking with us.

Links to our complete schedule, website, Facebook page, etc. are all below.

Sincerely,
Ruth and Max

Do you love LIVE music?

Since you're reading this, we know that you love live music, but we hope that you are supporting live music in your community year around and not just when you come out to see us play. Find a small venue or concert series that features independent musicians. They may be local to your area or touring in your area from afar, but either way these musicians and the venues that present them need your support. If you're like us, you'll find that to experience live music in these intimate spaces is just as exciting and fulfilling as a big concert in an arena or huge theater, and a lot less expensive.

We're probably preaching to the choir here. If you've seen us play a concert it was very likely in a small local venue. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. Grab some friends and head out to support the LIVE music that you love.

We are playing five such venues this month, each one different, all very cool:

Friday November 6, 7:30 Live! From the Living Room. Held at Unity of Lake Orion, 3070 S Baldwin Rd, Orion MI 48359, this weekly series has continued since 2001 in various venues. Always a great time.

Monday November 9, 6:00. Hackley Public Library, 316 W. Webster Ave. Muskegon, MI 49440. Sponsored by the Friends of Hackley Public Library, this series features a wide variety of music, so we feel fortunate to have been chosen to participate. It's worth going just to enter and look around this very cool modern library in a beautiful historic building in downtown Muskegon.

Saturday November 14, 8:00.  Seven Steps Up, 116 S. Jackson, Spring Lake, MI. Ruth will be performing solo as she opens for one of her favorites, Cheryl Wheeler. This listening room brings in some of the finest talent on the road today. Get your tickets in advance for a great listening experience with a full bar.

Saturday November 21 Crazy Wisdom Bookstore and Tea Room, 114 South Main Street
Ann Arbor, MI48104. Upstairs in this amazing new age bookstore is a great little cafe/tea room that features live music every weekend. Check it out any Friday or Saturday.

Sunday November 22, Sleder's Family Tavern's "On The Porch" Concert Series, 717 Randolf, Traverse City, MI. A monthly showcase featuring performers singing their original work in concert in a club atmoshpere featuring great food, great service. This one just might be for you.

Please support live music in your community. Click the links above or the schedule below for more details.

Thanks!

Ruth and Max

WOW!  Call (231) 733-9672 for tickets.

Feels Like Autumn

September is here, and it's only a few days to the Equinox and the official beginning of autumn. The air feels wonderful here in Michigan "with a kiss of summer still upon the air." Our summer was busy, adventurous, and satisfying in, oh, so many ways thanks to friends like you.

Due to a change in our touring plans we aren't playing very much this month. We are taking the opportunity, however, to work a little bit each day on recording our next CD. For the first time we are attempting to record the entire project in our home studio. If you've heard us play in the last few months you may have heard some of the new songs. Others have yet to be revealed to anyone.

It's a challenge to add recording to all the things we usually do around home, but we are finding the rhythm. If all goes well, we will have the new CD available for you after the first of the year. One way that you can help us is to purchase one or more of our 5 existing CDs or download some or our music that you might not yet have. Any income will help to defray the costs of production, re-production, and packaging of the new project. The easiest way to do this is here at CDBaby or here also at CDBaby or download from iTunes or Amazon.

Of course, our favorite way to reach you is at a live show. Please check the schedule linked below and come see us as soon as you can.

Thanks,
