Holiday music on sale

It's our first snowy day of the season

Hi!
We hope that your autumn has been calm and colorful as it has been here. As this little message is being written we are getting our first real snow of the season, and we are reminded of Ruth's song, First Snow. If you haven't heard it or would like to hear it again, just click on the title. Meanwhile, Ruth is working on her newest holiday themed song. We'll try to at least get a video up for you in December.
Though we have some dates scheduled to play for this early winter season, most of them are private holiday parties and house concerts. The most public one is the Sunday gathering for the C3 Inclusive Spiritual Connection in Grand Haven, MI on December 16.
In mid-January we begin our now annual tour in Florida. Public performance dates are on our schedule. If you know of a place where we should play, perhaps your RV Park or community club house, etc. please let us know, and we will try to make it happen. We also love to play house concerts, so if you'd like to try hosting one please contact us. It's easy.
Have a safe and joyful Thanksgiving, friends. You will hear from us again next month.
All the best,
Ruth and Max

April: In Like a Lion

RUTH AND MAX BLOOMQUIST
Muskegon, MI

Dear ,
April is here. March went out like a lion instead of a lamb, and that lion continues to prowl our neighborhood breathing its cold air wherever it goes and there are rumblings of snow in the forcast. Warmer weather will come and we will welcome it with open arms. Even so, we are glad to be home after two months traveling and playing in Florida and the Carolinas with a fun stop in Cleveland on our way back. Our two Michigan shows in late March were great fun. Thanks to all who supported us in those.
This April through the middle of May we will stay around Western Michigan with concerts in Saugatuck (Music and Munchies!), Grand Haven (a benefit for Camp New Day for children of convicts), Grand Rapids (Grand River Folk Arts Society), and Muskegon (an event for political candidate Rob Davidson in April and a fund raising event for Family Promise of the Lakeshore in May). Please check the linked schedule below for the details.
Thanks! Please continue to support live music. Without fans like you we and other musicians like us would be nowhere.
Happy Spring!
Ruth and Max

"They are charming, traditional, and skilled musicians. You are in for a real treat! Ruth stands out in particular with her vocals, which are rich, warm, and mellifluous. Though the Bloomquists have been at this since the 70s, I only first heard them perform a year ago, and when Ruth started singing, I was blown away. Fantastic." Welcome 2018

RUTH AND MAX BLOOMQUIST
Muskegon, MI

Dear ,

First of all we want to wish you the very best for the New Year. We also hope that 2017 treated you well.

For us, the biggest hightlight of the past year was certainly the release of our new CD, On a Canvas Painted Blue.  Recorded entirely in our home studio, the project was a challenging labor of love, took longer than we expected, and, in the end, made us very happy. Released on October 1, it has been getting airplay in folk radio these three months.

Earlier in the Fall, we were fortunate to have been invited to play the Michigan Irish Music Festival. Though we are obviously not exactly in the Irish music genre we were ecstatic to play for this, one of the great Irish music festivals going, while the festival was happy to showcase us as a local folk music attraction. For two of our four sets we were lucky enough to collaborate with our old friend Carl Webb, another musical standard in our community.

Our first concert of 2018 is part of a series we have played severals times, and it's another "home town" event. This FREE show sponsored by the Friends of Hackley Library on Monday January 8 has been moved to a larger venue. We will be playing in the iconic 500 seat auditorium at The Corner. This beautiful building has stood in Muskegon, MI for many years as the Christian Science Reading Room, but has recently been purchased by the Central Methodist Church as a community center and alternative worship space. It's gonna be great!

The rest of our January and February will be spent playing our music in Florida. Most of these dates are on our web schedule linked below. Be sure to see if any are near where you might be. One partucilar highlight will be our concert at the Leesburg Center for the Arts. Not only will there be an evening concert, but Ruth will be leading a songwriting workshop. Check it out if you're in the area.

All the pertinent details are in the linked schedule below. Be sure to have a look.

Thanks for reading. Thanks for listening. Thanks for supporting our music.

Happy New Year!

Ruth and Max

PS. If you haven't yet, be sure to look up that new CD, On a Canvas Painte Blue. It's availabe for purchase, download, and streaming in all the usual places including iTunes, Amazon, CD Baby, Apple Mujsic, Spotify, etc. Thanks!

Mid-September? Already?

Dear ,

Where did the summer go? After a few chilly days here in West Michigan we're back into a stretch of warm days and crisp Autumn nights. Actually, it's our favforite time of the year. In our little vegetable garden the beans are all done, the tomatoes are about there, too, and the carrots and a new crop of lettuce are still growing. Meanwhile, the surrounding sunflowers are just past their peak, and the deer and turkeys are frequent visitors.

We are looking forward to some interesting and fun appearances in the next month. A big one for sure is right in our home town at the Michigan Irish Music Festival. We have sets on Saturday Sept. 16 at 11:15am as we join forces with The Carl Webb Band and 5:00pm as a duo, and on Sunday at 1:15pm again with Carl Webb. We've worked up some Irish and "Irishy" material in addition to some of our usual selections. We WILL have fun, and we hope to see a lot of our friends from West Michigan and beyond.

The following Sunday we travel a short way to New Era, Michigan's Trintity Lutheran Church for a concert to benefit the Food Pantry there. They feed about a 150 families in need each month and we hope for a  good turnout. Will you join us, please?

Next we jump to October 7 when we again head just a short drive north of home for Hippie Fest Michigan. Advance tickets are required for Hippie Fest, so head for their evenbrite page to secure your admission. Tickets are only $5!

So that's our news for now...

Oh... We have a special announcement coming very soon. It's something we've been working on for a long time, and it's something we hope you'll really like, so keep your eyes peeled.

Thanks,
Ruth and Max

Summer's Here. June News

Though the Summer Solstice is still three weeks away, the TV weather forecasters start the summer season on June 1. We're for that and welcome the warmer days and the growing things that come with them.

Our as yet untitled new CD is still in the production stages, but we're committed now and will soon be finished with the studio work. We promise to let you know in advance of the release date. Promise. Meanwhile, for a little preview, you can go to our Youtube channel and click on Favorites. The first 4 videos in the list are versions of songs that will be included. Please take a look, and subscribe to our channel if you're a regular Youtube user.

In addition to a couple of private events that we are happy to be playing, we are very excited to be included in the "Market Music" series at the Grand Haven, MI Farmers Market. Our dates there are June 11 for the Sunday Art Market and July 1 for the regular Saturday Farmers Market Day. Both shows start at 11:00 AM. Sound provided by Courtyard Concerts. We'll let you know about a few dates that are coming up later in the coming months.

Meanwhile, enjoy every minute of your summer.

Thanks for reading. Thanks for listening, Thanks for being there for us.

Ruth and Max

Two Special Concerts in April

We hope you're doing well and looking forward to a lovely Spring as we are. Planting season will be upon us soon, and first into the ground for us is always the peas. It won't be long before they're planted and we'll be looking for those little green shoots.

We have two very special concerts this month, and we hope that our West Michigan friends will be able to pick one.

Friday April 21 is the Tri-Cities Habitat for HumanityBIG 6O BASH celebrating the building of their 60th home in the Grand Haven, Michigan area. It's an accomplishment worth celebrating, and we're looking forward to helping with the party at the Trillium Event Center. Your ticket gets you dinner and our concert and there will be a cash bar and a silent auction. Call 616-846-1505 for your ADVANCE tickets. The party starts at 5:30.

Saturday April 22 we return to South Haven courtesy of the kind folks of the Foundry Hall organization. They bring Folk and Acoustic music to Southwest Michigan at several venues in the South Haven area. Our 7:30 show is at the Liberty Hyde Bailey Museum, 903 S Bailey Ave. South Haven. Get your advance tickets here.

We're not traveling very far from home this month, but we do love to get around. If you're one of the many who are a bit farther from West Michigan, who should we contact to arrange an appearance in your area sometime in the furure?

Thanks for reading. Thanks for being a fan. Thanks for helping us do what we love.

First Snow. Christmas time's a'comin'

RUTH AND MAX BLOOMQUIST
Muskegon, MI

December is here and we seem to be in full swing for the Holiday Season. We've had our first snowfall where we live, and a big one is in the forecast for later this week. Time to get out the X-country skis so they're ready to go.
Coincidentally, Ruth has written a new song called First Snow.
You can hear it and watch the photographic videohere: https://youtu.be/U2SjdTEqhxs    And it is available for download here: http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/ruthbloomquist2
We hope you like it and share it with your friends.

Our Christmas EP This Season of Hope and Delight is available for purchase or download, too. It came out a bit late last year, so you might not have had a chance to grab your copy. Just click the photo and you're there.

We have just a few holiday themed concerts planned for the coming month. If you're near we hope you'll be able to join us.

We are especialy excited to have been invited to play for the annual holiday concert at Seven Steps Up in Spring Lake, MI. They're calling it A Ho Ho Ho Holiday Show.

All of the door proceeds will go to assist those in need though the United Way, so we're hoping for a full house in this beautiful concert venue. The date is Sunday Dec. 11.

Our entire schedule is linked below. Please take a look to see if we might be coming to your neighborhood soon.

We wish you all the best for the Holiday Season and hope that the New Year brings you peace, happiness, fulfillment, and dreams come true.

November News and New Song- First Snow

Where we live near the shore of Lake Michigan, we have not yet had our first snow of the season. Some years we might have had it already, while in others we hope and hope that it will come in time for Christmas. Either way, the transition from Autumn to Winter is always amazing. Ruth has written a new song called First Snow. We hope you'll watch the video here: https://youtu.be/U2SjdTEqhxs

Meanwhile, we have two exciting concerts to share with you for November.

On November 19 we are excited to return to MAMA's Coffee House. Held at the Birmingham Unitarian Church 38651 Woodward Ave, Bloomfield Hills, MI, MAMA's is an iconic Michigan venue for Folk and other acoustic music. Please join us if you can.

On November 27, the Sunday of Thanksgiving Weekend,  we will be warm and cozy playing the On The Porch Series at Sleder's Family Tavern at 717 Randolph in Traverse City, MI. This long running concert series promotes original music only, so please come out for a Harvest of Ruth's Original Songs.

You can check the Schedule Page on this website for all the details for all of our shows.

Thanks for reading. Thanks for being a fan. And thanks for supporting live independent music wherever you are.

All the best,
Ruth and Max
